Supporting SNDog's Charity

Friday, March 10 2017

Here at Thamesdown Transport we are continuing our programme of improvements for customers in and around Swindon and North Wiltshire. And this time, it’s passengers with four legs that are reaping the benefits.

We are removing charges for dogs travelling across the region and celebrating by pledging our support to local charity SNDogs.

“We’re delighted to be making it easier for dog owners to travel with us,” said Thamesdown general manager, Alex Chutter. “Until now, our canine friends were being charged for a ticket. But we feel it’s time to change that - as long as they’re accompanied by their humans.

“And to reinforce our love of dogs, we’re making a donation of £200 to SNDogs.”

SNDogs - formerly Swindon’s Needy Dogs - was set up in 2012 to help dogs in the Swindon pound. Its volunteers took in dogs and treated them as family whilst they actively looked to find the perfect home for them. SNDogs became a charity in 2015.

The charity re-homes dogs from Swindon’s dog pound, other UK dog pounds and dog rescues, as well as helping people who can no longer care for their dogs - for example those moving into a nursing home or experiencing relationship breakups.  Last year the charity re-homed more than 105 dogs.

Clare Fantini-Stephens from SNDogs added: ‘This is great news for Swindon’s dog owners as it means that people whose only means of transport is by bus won’t have to worry about paying extra for their dog. And they are more likely to take their dog on the bus with them if they know the dog will be made welcome.

SNDogs would also like to take this opportunity to say a BIG thank you to Thamesdown Transport for its very kind donation.”
